| Results of the reseaches on the accumulation of deposits in waste water stabilization pond was summarized. Based on the analysis of the origin and composition of the deposits the authors suggested that the deposits are composed of two fractions: biodegradable and non-biodegradable. A theoretical model discribing the accumulation of benthic deposits was hence established. According to the model, the following conclusions could be drawn: (1) the amount of the accumulation of non-biodegradable is directly proportional to the operation time of the pond; (2) the accumulation of biodegradable part of the deposits will not surpass a maximum value; and (3) the accumulation of pond benthic deposits is closely related to the quantity and quality of influents as well as the operation conditions of the pond. |
