| There are many problems in environmental meteorology in which only angles are concerned. Directional data have specific features resulting in the apparent differences between statistics of directional data and general mathematical statistics. In this paper, statistics of directional data is applied to the ennvironmental science. By means of direct-viewing wind rose, wind direction data is naturally expressed. The concept and calculation of average wind direction is introduced, and the reasonable calculation of wind direction standard deviation is also illuminat-ed. As an example, the wind directions in xiamen was studied. |
